FUTURE SITE REDESIGN

ComicPress version 2.5 is about to come out of beta, so I think I’ll be halting further modifications of this site until then. That way I can work with the newest version and, possibly, adapt my modifications so they can be used as plugins in CP or something, I’m not sure. But I really think it should be easier to fix problems with something more standardized than it is to make something so personalized work fine. Either way I won’t be losing my modifications, just redoing them (hopefully in a better way). I’ll also take the chance to change part of the site’s design so that it looks nicer, less crowded, and is more friendly to different resolutions and font sizes. Reliance on a fixed font size is a real problem… Oh well.

Anyways, I did add a little change to the site today, check it out:

 :???:

Personally, I just love this one:  . . .

RANDOM MICRO REVIEW

FEY WINDS BY NICOLE CHARTRAND
Fey Winds by Nicole Chartrand
(clicking this image will take you to another site)

Nicole Chartrand’s artwork is simply stunning, though in a nuanced way that never feels “too much”. The characters in Fey Winds are funny and lovable. And the story has been really intriguing so far.

The only problem with this comic is that it only updates once a week… which might just be… too long of a wait… (a little hypocrisy there, huh?)

Hm, hm, why indeed? I think he might not be used to speak to other people too often... really really shy, plus Daughter's presence has thrown him off a bit...

Thanks for your input, unknown1. I was thinking the text might have been too small but wasn't sure. I made it a bit bigger for the entries' text, comments and so. I hope it's better now... I also took the chance and changed the old butterflies background for the starry one  [...]

I think the text is a little on the small side i am on a 24 inch monitor and it looks great however your background of butterflies cuts off and has a 2 inch blue???(color blind) border around the edge

017 (WHEREIN BLUE SKIES REFLECT)
017 (wherein blue skies reflect)

It seems like a weekly schedule suits me… which means I should start pushing for twice-a-week updates, huh?

The story is just about to get really interesting (or not, depending on how you see it). So keep reading!

Also, what do you think of the micro reviews? Are they useful? I’ll be writing more like that. In the case of webcomics I think I’ll omit the extremelly popular ones I read as they need no further mentioning. Even so, a few of the comics I read already are very popular, as you can see. Oh well! Soon: books and games, as well as non-comic sites.

Remember to put the new smilies to good use in your notes

So you think my comic sucks, huh? Great!

I’ve been wondering for a while about monetization… that is, to turn something you do for free (like this comic) in a source of revenue. I see this in other webcomics all the time in the way of donation links, google ads, banners and so on. I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet, or if I’ll ever be. Though I have nothing against it, banners mess up a site’s design if not done properly, you can easily get carried away and just place too damn many of them, and as for donations… well, I really don’t feel I’m good enough yet. Again, I don’t know if I’ll ever be good enough to deserve people sending me money. This is a personal thing, really… I’m just light years away from where I want to be in artistic terms. Until I get there or close to there…

ID featured ComicPress site, author caught with pants down

Imaginary Daughter has just been featured in the ComicPress site, and I feel both honored for this, and more than a bit ashamed that you get to see ID in its current broken form (specially if you are an IE6 user). Nevertheless, I want to thank Tyler both for his extremely kind words and for this awesome thing called ComicPress that he’s generously unleashed on us. Like he says, we’ve never exchanged words before, but his hard work on ComicPress has allowed me to get my comic online the way I want it, so I really appreciate his generosity. Also like he says, the people in the forum are awesome, and a lifesaver more often than not. Well, sitesavers at the very least.

To the new visitors, a couple of things. First, again, sorry that everything’s broken around here. I have a very specific vision for this site on mind, and though I’ve been working on it, it’s not done yet. The site is under constant construction, which basically means that something else will be broken every time you visit. Only the main page currently works, more or less, and even that only if you aren’t using IE6. But, I’m working on that. It’s mostly CSS stuff, the programming part is almost done.

If you are a ComicPress user, please feel free to ask about anything you’d like to implement in your own site. I plan to put up a download link with all of this site’s tweaks once it’s done, but in the meantime we can exchange info the way our ancestors did it, through IM and blog comments. And then there is the aforementioned ComicPress forum, which I read all the time, so… you know.

As for the comic itself, I’ve been working on it and will be updating it again soon, possibly by the end of this week, so there’s that to look forwards to! Or not, you know.

Anyways, thanks for visiting, please come back, and remember I love comments!

THE WORKHAMMER STRIKES BACK
The workhammer strikes back

This is the dreaded “comic’s gonna be late” post that everybody hates to write and/or read. Well, for work-related reasons, today’s comic, and probably friday’s comic as well, are going to be late. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines! If things work out as they should, I’ll be back to the regular schedule come monday, but I doubt it. I apologize for this (yeah, I’m aware I don’t have readers yet… but still.)
